Pointe-Claire has won two Plumes d’excellence awards from the Association des communicateurs municipaux du Québec (ACMQ) for the children’s book, Leonard’s Composting Adventures.
Leonard’s Composting Adventures won the gold prize in the Publications category and the Coup de cœuraward from the panel among 114 submitted projects for its originality, playfulness, quality of execution, winning strategy, and goals achieved.
These two awards add to the Coup de cœur honourable mention won during Quebec Waste Reduction Week, where the children’s book charmed the judges with its inspiring concept illustrating Pointe-Claire’s commitment to sustainable development.
This book, created by the City, is an original idea by Ms. Emmanuelle Jobidon, Environment and Sustainable Development Coordinator.
Leonard’s Composting Adventures tells the story of a young boy and his cat as they learn how to compost and protect the planet. Their new friend, Mr. Compost, teaches them how to sort waste at source properly, how waste is turned into compost, and how composting has a positive impact on the environment. Mr. Compost takes Leonard and Kitty on a journey to a delightful, funny, and zany world full of sporty vegetables, dancing fruit, and smiling micro-organisms with a big appetite!
Over 2,000 children in Pointe-Claire already own a copy of the book, which was launched last September. The book is also available for loan at the Library and can be purchased at the multiservice counter at City hall for $5. The Waste Management Squad will be handing out copies of the book to residential addresses and during events this summer. Leonard’s Composting Adventures can also be loaned at over twenty libraries across Quebec and is even available at an environmental education association in Belgium!
“We are proud of these awards. They highlight our teams’ efforts to encourage good, long-lasting habits that respect the environment, help us sort waste properly, and improve the services we offer and the quality of life for our entire community,” said Mayor Belvedere in conclusion.
