The City of Pointe-Claire and its residents are happy to congratulate athlete Christine Gauthier of the Pointe-Claire Canoe Club, who will represent Canada at the Paralympic Games held in Rio in September.

“We’re proud to see an athlete from our Canoe Club represent Canada at such a major event,” says Mayor Trudeau. “She is a model for all young athletes and a source of inspiration for those who dream of meeting challenges and achieving excellence. We have every reason to be proud of Christine Gauthier whose work and talent have made her Canada’s envoy to world-class competitions.”

Christine Gauthier will be participating in the event for the first time, since canoe-kayak is a new discipline at the Paralympics. She will compete in the 200-metre kayak race. Gauthier has been training at the Pointe-Claire Canoe Club for the past eight years.

Preliminary heats will take place on Wednesday, September 14, in the morning, and the final will be held on Thursday, September 15, between 9 a.m. and noon.

“This exceptional athlete is a source of pride for the Pointe-Claire community and a source of inspiration for our Canoe Club members,” notes the mayor. “I hope residents will keep on encouraging our athletes as they continue to give exceptional performances in the sport they love at the international level.”
