The Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported an unusual incidence that occurred on a serene Thursday night. A plane, after an unforeseen interruption in its journey, made an impromptu landing on a country road in the Rural Municipality (RM) of St. Andrews.
The authorities from the Selkirk detachment were initially notified about a potential crash after the plane lost contact with St. Andrews Airport while preparing to land. There were seven passengers on board the aircraft, causing quite the concern amongst the police ranks.
However, as the situation unfolded, it turned out that the plane had merely run out of fuel. The pilot demonstrated great skill and presence of mind by ensuring a safe touchdown on Pigeon Bluff Road, without any grievous injuries. The incident was later confirmed by RCMP through an email sent over to CTV News Winnipeg.
Following the safe landing, the law enforcement officers collaborated with airport staff. Together, they executed a successful plan to transfer the aircraft to Highway 67, cordoning off the vicinity to guarantee absolute safety. After refuelling, the plane was fit to resume its journey and promptly took off, eventually making its way back to St. Andrews Airport.
