Pfizer Volunteers Can Always Be Counted On
Over 400 Pfizer Canada employees donated their time and talents to assist 25 non-profit groups during the recent celebration of their annual Give a Hand Day to mark International Volunteer Day 2017.
In collaboration with Volunteer West Island’s Corporate Volunteer Program and Heather Bisset, Manager, Corporate Affairs, Pfizer Canada Inc., teams of company volunteers were placed in a wide variety of community organizations in the Montreal area.
The organizations aided by the employees included Animatch, Centre de Bénévolat et Moisson de Laval, CHSLD Denis-Benjamin Viger, Dans la rue, Health Partners International of Canada, La Maison Benoit Labre, Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation, Make-A-Wish Quebec, Welcome Hall Mission, Moisson Montréal, Old Brewery Mission, St-Antoine 50+ Community Centre, The Teapot Seniors’ Centre, West Island Mission, West-Island Palliative Care Residence, West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped (Valois Residence), Montreal Oral School for the Deaf, Sainte-Anne’s Hospital, and VOBOC.
Pfizer employees’ volunteer initiative amounted to approximately 1600 volunteer hours and involved such activities as sorting and organizing donations; cleaning, painting, and renovating; baking, cooking, and serving meals; wrapping gifts; knitting, sorting and arranging clothing items; packing humanitarian medical kits; engaging in one-on-one activities with the elderly, and spreading Holiday cheer in communities where Pfizer volunteers live and work.
“Following our annual Giving Campaign where Pfizer matches donations colleagues make to United Way/Centraide and West Island Community Shares, this annual day of service is an opportunity for colleagues to donate something that can be just as valuable as money – their time,” explains Rhonda O’Gallagher, Vice-president, Corporate Affairs.
