An uncanny deviation from the norm occurred during the ordinary picture day at Terrible Toby’s Pet Supply Depot, situated in Kitchener. The store stepped into the realm of the ghostly in its annual Halloween costume contest that took place over the most recent weekend.
Exhibiting the spirit of Halloween, Daniella and Tyler Florica dressed their dog Kevin as Chucky. “Why not get into the spirit of Halloween?” they mused, perfectly encompassing the eerie ambiance that embroiled Terrible Toby’s pet haven.
All the photographs, capturing such creative displays of the pet costumes, found their way onto the Terrible Toby’s website. Customers and Halloween enthusiasts worldwide can now get a glimpse of Kevin-the-Chucky alongside other costumed pets. Not just a visual feast, the website also offers its visitors a chance to vote for the best-dressed pet.
However, the event serves a purpose beyond delightful amusement. It is an integral source of funds for the Kitchener Stray Cat Rescue, an organization steeped in a noble cause but now finds itself in a tricky situation. The city’s recent approval of a high-rise development in the space currently occupied by the rescue center has put them in dire need of a new home.
Kathryn Quirk, a representative from the rescue, expressed their predicament. “We have about 53 cats currently under our protection that we’ll need to relocate,” she said, adding to their conundrum, “We rely solely on community donations as we have no private funding.”
The rescue organization also welcomes financial aid through its website, further highlighting the direct impact of community contribution they rely on for carrying out their mission.
While Terrible Toby’s Pet Supply Depot’s Halloween costume contest brought a unique blend of pet-lovers’ festivity and charity work, it also underlined the need for continuous support and funds necessary to keep organizations like Kitchener Stray Cat Rescue up and running.
