Paving Firm Charged With Note Offering Conducive Working Environment In 2019 Trinity Bay Fatality

A paving firm is facing six charges under the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Act approximately two years after one of its employees sustained injuries and died while preparing to pave a driveway in the New Harbor area.

The charged against the firm Paradise Paving Limited, related to the accident that occurred on the 31st of May, 2019, when emergency responders rushed to the Trinity bay community. The individual, a 54-year-old man, dies upon the responder’s arrival, Police said.

The provincial occupational health and safety division immediately started an investigation into the man’s death. The charges that the police preferred against the company include failure to provide safe tools, equipment, training, and instruction to workers, failure to ensure that supervisors and workers were cognizant of inherent risks, and failure to maintain all equipment in good working order.
