Orange County has its second big lottery winner of the month after someone bought a jackpot-winning ticket at a Ralphs in Dana Point.
The lucky ticket, matching all six numbers in Monday night’s Powerball drawing, was purchased at the Ralphs supermarket on Golden Lantern, located in the picturesque seaside community of Dana Point. Monday’s winning numbers were 1, 2, 15, 23, 28, with the Powerball number 10. This draw marked the third instance since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.
The fortunate lottery player now faces the enviable decision of choosing between receiving the $44 million jackpot in 30 annual installments or opting for a lump sum payment of $21.9 million before federal taxes are deducted. The winner has a year from the draw date to claim their monumental prize.
The odds of matching all five numbers plus the Powerball number stand at a staggering 1 in 292.2 million, as stated by the Multi-State Lottery Association. However, the overall chance of winning any prize in the Powerball lottery is more favorable at 1 in 24.9. For those still feeling lucky, the jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing is projected to be $20 million.
August has proven to be a particularly fruitful month for lottery enthusiasts in Orange County. Besides the recent Powerball jackpot winner, another lucky ticket sold during Friday’s Mega Millions drawing at Pavilions Place in Newport brought in over $1 million. This ticket managed to match five numbers, narrowly missing the Mega number. The winning Mega Millions numbers were 22, 38, 48, 51, 61, and Mega number 5.
With such significant recent wins, excitement continues to build among residents as they look forward to the upcoming lottery draws, hopeful that fortune might once again favor their county.
