A lucky ticket holder from the Timiskaming-Cochrane area in northeastern Ontario has clinched Tuesday night’s $70 million Lotto Max jackpot, according to lottery officials. This remarkable win marks the fifth Lotto Max jackpot claimed in Ontario since April.
“Over the past four months alone, OLG has distributed a whopping $265 million in Lotto Max jackpot payouts to fortunate Ontarians. Now, another $70 million joins that tally,” the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation noted in a statement released Wednesday morning. “Additionally, several new millionaires have emerged from our Maxmillions tickets, and we’ve seen significant wins from Encore tickets.”
Half of the fourteen $1 million Maxmillions prizes from the August 20 draw were claimed by Ontarians. Winning tickets were purchased in Peterborough, Ottawa, Mississauga, Toronto, and via online platforms. Encore ticket add-ons sold in Unionville, Kingston, and Ottawa also scored big, with prizes ranging from $100,000 to $1 million.
To officially claim the jackpot, the winning ticket-holder must undergo a verification process to confirm their ownership of the ticket. “While OLG has complete details about the winning ticket, we must await the ticket holder’s appearance and completion of our routine prize claim review to affirm their rightful ownership,” OLG spokesperson Tony Bitonti explained in an email to CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca on Wednesday.
Part of the validation process includes inquiries about the number selection method, whether chosen or generated at random.
