In Nova Scotia, a manhunt is underway for Darren Trevor Jackson, a resident of Truro implicated in a motel shooting incident. Officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Colchester County District, are spearheading the search for the 52-year-old suspect.
The precipitating event transpired around 9pm on Sunday, near a motel off Highway 2 in Brookfield. Police were alerted to the possible discharge of firearms in the area. Through a swift investigation, it was ascertained that a man, later identified as Jackson, had aimed and fired at a woman and her vehicle.
The victims were subsequently located in a Truro hospital where it was determined that one woman, aged 30, had sustained serious, albeit non-life-threatening injuries. Miraculously, the second woman, aged 29, had emerged from the incident unscathed.
Following these revelations, the name of Jackson shot up to the top of the prime suspects’ list with an emergency alert issued. However, this alert was withdrawn on Monday morning, with the rationale being Jackson posed no immediate danger to the public. His abandoned vehicle was later found on Arthur Street in Truro.
Official charges were subsequently framed against Jackson on Wednesday, even though he had thus far evaded arrest. The charges included two counts of attempted murder, use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, breach of a prohibition order (two counts), and operation of conveyance while prohibited.
Despite the charges, Jackson remains at large. Police describe him as a 5-foot-10 male, approximating 205lbs in weight, with greying hair and brown eyes. There is a province-wide warrant out for his arrest, and he is potentially armed.
Citizens who might have any information pertaining to Jackson’s whereabouts are being urged get in touch with the police at 902-893-6820. Alternatively, they may also maintain anonymity and relay information via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
