In a shocking twist of action, NFL star and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver, Rashee Rice finds himself at the crossroads of legal controversy. According to the Dallas Police, the 23-year-old, along with another speeding sports car driver, incited a chain-reaction crash on a Dallas highway, subsequently facing charges which include aggravated assault.

Rice, the young wide receiver whose speed on the turf brought him fame, found himself on the wrong side of velocity this time as he, along with Theodore Knox, 21, tangoed on the Dallas highway lanes in their respective sports beasts – a Lamborghini sport utility vehicle driven by Rice and a Corvette driven by Knox.

The Dallas Police Department stated arrest warrants have been issued for both men. Each warrant listed one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injuries of varying degrees. As of the issuance, neither Rice nor Knox had been brought into custody. Royce West, State Senator and Rice’s attorney, held his silence on the matter and no attorney for Knox has been made public.

The volatile mix of high power sports cars, high-speed lanes and young blood led to an unfortunate string of events. The aftermath of the crash was disseminated over a field of six vehicles, resulting in four individuals suffering minor injuries. According to police reports, both drivers apparently lost control, tipping the scales of blame. They claim the Lamborghini veered off onto the shoulder and rammed into the center median, thus sparking off a chain reaction collision. Adding to the shock was the fact that both drivers reportedly abandoned the scene post-crash, without assessing whether anyone necessitated medical attention, or offering their personal information.

Notably, while the drivers face charges, the passengers in the two speeding sports cars who also allegedly vacated the scene, will not be charged.

Rice, in a display of accountability, recently posted on Instagram, accepting “full responsibility” for his part in the havoc. The charges he faces aren’t taken lightly. Aggravated assault – a second-degree felony, carries weight of up to 20 years in prison. A collision resulting in serious bodily harm, a third-degree felony, can be punished by a term of up to 10 years in incarceration, while collisions involving injuries can fetch up to five years.

Rice, originally a Philadelphia native but raised in North Richland Hills, Texas, had been leasing the Lamborghini involved in the incident from The Classic Lifestyle. This information was disclosed by Kyle Coker, an attorney for the Dallas-based luxury car rental firm. Meanwhile, it’s stated by Rice’s attorney that the Corvette belonged to Rice.

Rice caught the NFL’s attention after an outstanding senior season in 2022 at Southern Methodist University. The Kansas City Chiefs selected him in the second round of the previous year’s draft, and thanks to his contributions, he was a radiant beacon on the somewhat dimmed passing game of the Chiefs. Whether this incident will cloud his rising star is yet to be seen, as the Chiefs had no immediate comment on the whole situation.
