After the terrifying incident, the man, despite his precarious condition, had the presence of mind to seek assistance from staff at a nearby McDonald’s outlet, causing a flurry of emergency activity to ensue shortly after 3am.

Responding urgently to the call, emergency services rushed the man to the John Hunter Hospital, where his burn injuries were deemed severe, leading to his immediate transfer to Royal North Shore.
