New Mask Guidelines Rolled Out for Hospitals and Care Homes by Shared Health

A newly adjusted guidance concerning the usage of masks in hospitals and care homes has been rolled out by the administrative body, calling for staff to adorn them while giving visitors optional use.

The freshly implemented masking protocols, promulgated in a memorandum from Shared Health, is scheduled to be enforced starting from Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Health-care personnel stationed in hospitals and personal care establishments are mandated to put on a medical-standard mask when interacting with patients, long-term care dwellers, and patrons. The directive is lenient in communal locations such as elevators, dining spaces, corridors, and nursing hubs, where staff are not obligated to wear masks.

As for guests, designated care providers, and those seeking medical assistance, Shared Health clarified that masks are not compulsory but highly encouraged. The exception being for areas that cater to medically vulnerable individuals, such as cancer units, where visitors are strongly advised to mask up.

People exhibiting symptoms will continue to be advised to don their masks.

The province reveals that community-based health establishments, inclusive of doctors’ clinics, have the autonomy to stipulate their masking regulations.

Dr. Brent Roussin, the chief provincial public health officer of Manitoba, reasserted to the press in September that there are no impending mask mandates for public places.
