Authorities in Nanaimo have issued a public plea to assist in locating a hit-and-run driver. The suspect purportedly caused substantial damage to a parked car before hurriedly leaving the scene unseen.
The Nanaimo Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed that the incident transpired around 8:45 p.m. on August 20. The scene of the accident was a McDonald’s parking lot situated at 1213 Princess Royal Avenue.
The Official investigation has led to the procurement of a surveillance camera image that purportedly captures a red pick-up truck with a black canopy. The image reveals the truck reversing into a grey Honda Civic.
The Honda, which was unattended during the incident, suffered visible damage at the rear end, stated the police Tuesday news release. They further speculated that the pick-up truck must have also sustained substantial rear-end damage. However, verification of this detail has been hindered as neither the truck’s license plate nor the presence of the driver was discernible in the surveillance image.
Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson, Constable Gary O’Brien relayed that currently, investigators are devoid of leads and remain hopeful that public assistance may provide identification of both the suspect vehicle and its driver.
Nanaimo RCMP encourages anyone who may hold relevant information about the incident to contact them through the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
