On Sunday, November 4, the third annual Neighbours for Neighbours Food Drive will gather non-perishable food to benefit five local food banks on the West Island. Donations made will be divided between On Rock, West Island Assistance Fund, West Island Mission, St. Anne’s Food Bank and John Abbott College Food Bank.
The Neighbours for Neighbours Food Drive started with a simple Facebook conversation between two mothers, Stephanie Koury and Rhonda Massad, about trying to teach kindness to the next generation.
What happened next was heartwarming and not uncommon on the West Island. The community took notice of the little engine that could and within hours hundreds of people had been invited to the Facebook Event and more importantly they showed up to help their neighbours in need.
This year the event once again has the support of Provigo Le Marche in Kirkland from 9 to 4 p.m. where the event will be held along with Desjardins, MINC, Rideau Memorial Gardens and West Island Blog.
