British Columbia’s police watchdog is conducting an investigation following an incident involving a man who was injured after being arrested for urinating on an RCMP station. Authorities were initially called to assist in discharging the man from Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. Subsequently, he was observed urinating on the RCMP detachment nearby. Following his arrest, the man was returned to the hospital for treatment of an unspecified injury.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has commenced a probe to determine if the injury meets the threshold of serious harm as defined under the Police Act. The inquiry will assess whether the actions of the police were appropriate and proportionate under the circumstances. The IIO is actively seeking witnesses to provide further insights into the events surrounding the arrest.
