A Canadian man from Quebec has tragically lost his life in an avalanche while snowboarding in the mountains near Salt Lake City, Utah. The Salt Lake County sheriff’s office identified the deceased as 38-year-old David Éthier. According to Deputy Arlan Bennett, Éthier was splitboarding in the Millcreek Canyon area when he was engulfed by an avalanche on Saturday.

The search for Éthier began on Sunday evening after his family discovered his dog and his vehicle at a trailhead, sparking concerns when they learned he had been missing for 24 hours. Heavy snowfall hampered rescue efforts, which continued throughout Monday and concluded on Tuesday with the recovery of Éthier’s body.

Sheriff Rosie Rivera expressed condolences to Éthier’s family, describing the event as a “heartbreaking tragedy.” The family has been contacted and is grieving the sudden loss.
