Mystery in the Alps: Will Olympic Champion Jakara Anthony Defy the Odds and Return to Glory?

Olympian Matt Graham has cautioned fellow Australian skier Jakara Anthony against hastening her recovery from a broken collarbone, a setback that casts doubt over her World Cup season. Anthony, who is rehabilitating in Australia after undergoing surgery following a training fall, was preparing for a World Cup dual moguls event in Sweden when the injury occurred.

Though Anthony achieved remarkable success last season, winning 14 of 16 events including an Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2022, her return to competition remains uncertain. While initially considering participating in the upcoming round in Waterville, USA, on January 24-25, it appears more likely she’ll aim for the World Cup event in Livigno, Italy, from March 11-13, which will also serve as the freestyle skiing venue for the 2026 Olympics.

Graham, who endured a similar injury in the same Swedish resort, emphasized the importance of allowing sufficient healing time to avoid complications. After breaking his collarbone, Graham faced multiple surgeries before successfully competing in the 2023 World Championships in Georgia. He advises Anthony to prioritize her health and preparation for the forthcoming Olympics over immediate competition.

Currently enjoying time with family in Sydney, Graham ranks seventh in the World Cup standings. Before her injury, Anthony shared the lead in the standings with French skier Perrine Laffont.
