In New Orleans, a tragic incident unfolded on New Year’s Day as a driver of a white pickup truck accelerated down Bourbon Street, resulting in the deaths of 15 individuals and injuries to about 30 more. The victims included an 18-year-old aspiring nurse, a single mother, a father of two, and a former Princeton football star. As families began to share their stories, the coroner, Dr. Dwight McKenna, stated that names would be released following the completion of autopsies and notification of the next of kin.

Among those killed was Nikyra Dedeaux, a young woman with aspirations of becoming a registered nurse. She was celebrating when the vehicle struck her friend Zion Parsons, who described the chaotic scene as like something out of a movie. Dedeaux had been a dependable family member, planning to start college soon.

Reggie Hunter, a father from Baton Rouge, was also a victim, having just begun New Year’s celebrations with family when the attack occurred. His cousin was injured in the incident.

Tiger Bech, a former high school and Princeton University football player, died at a hospital following the attack. He was remembered by his coach for his energetic spirit and competitive nature. At the time of his death, Bech was working as an investment trader and had an influential presence within his company.

Nicole Perez, a single mother working as a manager at a deli, was also killed. Her employer remembered her as an industrious individual, devoted to improving life for her young son, whom she often brought to work.

The driver responsible for this attack remains unnamed, and investigations continue as families mourn the loss of their loved ones in this devastating event.
