Mystery Deepens in Frigid Montreal: Tenants Battle Cold and Silence from Elusive Landlord

In the chilly depths of winter, tenants of an apartment building in Montreal’s Lachine borough report they have been left without heating for over a month. Despite numerous issues in the building and repeated efforts to contact the property owner, the residents claim they have received no response. In desperation, they are now seeking intervention from the borough authorities.

Vera Nikolajew, one of the tenants, has expressed her frustration at the situation, explaining that she has resorted to using a space heater and the oven to keep warm. “We’re tired and fed up of taking showers with sink water, boiled with a rag,” she shared.

Maja Vodanovic, the Mayor of the Lachine Borough, noted that the building’s owner has faced fines for various issues before, but those have not led to any corrective action. The mayor also highlighted the complexity of resolving the current situation, as the city lacks the authority to enter private buildings, prompting them to explore alternative solutions.

Global News has attempted to contact the landlord for comment, but there has been no response.
