Mystery Behind the Baby Hampers: Why Are Alberta Families Desperately Seeking These Essential Bundles?

6

Amid rising living costs, the Alberta-based charity Basically Babies is experiencing heightened demand for its services. The organization provides essential items for newborns during their first year, including over a hundred items in hampers called layettes. These hampers, which can cost up to $1,200 to assemble, are tailored to the season in which a baby is born and are provided free of charge to agencies assisting new mothers in need. This includes families residing in shelters.

Jennifer Brookman, the Calgary operations manager, explains that collaborating agencies pinpoint families in dire need and request the layettes, which are then distributed to these families. With service requirements rising across Alberta, Basically Babies is seeking donations of specific items like sleepers, snowsuits, and receiving blankets to meet the increasing needs.
