A tragic two-vehicle collision in the Far North has claimed one life, pushing the holiday road fatality toll to seven. The incident occurred around 4pm on State Highway 10 at Waipapa, near Kerikeri, resulting in a road closure as authorities conduct investigations. Emergency services reported that one person died at the scene, another was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, and four others sustained minor injuries. Earlier in the day, a motorcyclist lost their life in a crash in Murupura. The road toll period, spanning from December 24 to January 6, has already marked seven deaths, compared to 22 fatalities during the same holiday period in the previous year.
