An end to the struggle may be in sight as the union for MPI employees publicized a tentative agreement on Tuesday evening. It is anticipated that this resolution will be delivered to its membership with a strong recommendation.
This agreement was achieved after intense negotiations between the union’s bargaining committee and MPI. Kyle Ross, the president of the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU), expressed his satisfaction with the resulted agreement. He highlighted its potential to aid MPI employees in maintaining pace with the unrelenting rise in the cost of living.
“This is an agreement we can confidently endorse to our members,” stated Ross.
The proposed resolution entails a wage hike of 13 per cent dispersed over a four-year period. It also includes a one-time signing bonus. This lump sum, totaling $1,800, will be given to all full-time workers while part-time employees will receive a pro-rated amount.
Ross articulated the union’s sentiment that this agreement genuinely acknowledges the commitment and outstanding service these hard-working individuals provide to the citizens of Manitoba.
The update arrives after a labor dispute that began towards the end of August, during which the union members rejected a previous offer just this Monday. On Wednesday, MGEU stated that this new offer will be tendered to their members. They will be accorded the opportunity to cast their votes on the issue between noon and 6 p.m.
