With joy in their hearts, Monday Haircare’s co-founder Jaimee Lupton and Nick Mowbray have recently announced their anticipation of a blessing in the form of a newborn, more than a year after experiencing the loss of their baby daughter “Gingernut” at 24 weeks and a subsequent miscarriage. This ray of hope follows a period of intense sorrow and trials with infertility.
Lupton took to Instagram to share her heartwarming news. The video post showcased her blossoming baby bump against the beautiful backdrop of Kokomo Island, made more poignant with a brief ultrasound clip.
In the past, Lupton opened up about the unspeakable pain of losing her child and her wrestle with infertility. The previous year witnessed an instance when her waters broke prematurely at 24 weeks, while Mowbray was away in Los Angeles. They had plans to deliberate about baby names upon his return. In the interim though, their baby was affectionately referred to as Gingernut, owing to Lupton using Gingernut biscuits to alleviate heavy pregnancy-related nausea, and the expectation that their baby girl might take after Mowbray’s ginger hair.
The unforgiving global pandemic meant strict restrictions at Auckland City Hospital, causing Lupton to have to settle for only one support person, which was her sister, as Mowbray was replaced on arriving back from his travels.
Lupton’s memory of the event is crystal clear. March 25, 2022, marked a gruelling four-hour labour and the heartbreaking birth of a fragile child, no longer than a mobile phone. As someone who prides herself on meticulous planning and control, Lupton recalled feeling helpless amidst the uncertainty and pain.
She initially harboured thoughts of sharing her ordeal after having her miracle baby and experiencing her “happy ending.” However, she recognised the importance of reaching out to others enduring the same hardships, even as she herself grappled with them. She voiced her concerns, “I think that’s the worst thing I could do because I’m in the trenches now. I’d be doing others who have gone through the same thing a disservice if I didn’t speak about my experience.” This announcement of impending parenthood is thus a beacon of hope for her and for others dealing with similar challenges.
