Mid-Air Mystery: What Really Happened on the Harrowing Air Canada Express Landing?

13

An Air Canada Express flight operated by PAL Airlines, originating from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, encountered a dramatic landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport over the weekend. The aircraft, carrying 73 passengers and crew, experienced a suspected landing gear issue, preventing it from reaching the terminal. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Passengers on board described the harrowing ordeal, with one remarking on a “massive rumble” during the landing, followed by sparks, flames, and smoke entering the cabin, leading to a 90-minute disruption of airport operations while emergency crews responded.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched an investigation into the incident. According to a statement released on Monday by Halifax airport spokesperson, Leah Batstone, the board completed their site review by Sunday night, allowing for the aircraft’s removal. The affected runway has since been inspected and reopened.
