The relaunch of Maurizio Cafe in Kirkland has been nothing but impressive. After several years of ownership changes and spotty ratings, the new and improved version of this West Island jewel is consistently delicious.
I held my son’s 17 birthday gathering there last Sunday night. Maurizio had told me about his family special earlier in the week, so I ordered that with a few appetizers to go with it. The $30 family meal that can be picked up any night of the week includes a roasted chicken done Portuguese style, Caesar salad, fries and four soda drinks. We were ten people, so I ordered three specials.
The Piri Piri chicken, which is all the rage right now, was done in authentic Portuguese fashion with a hint of spicy flavour. The slow roasted main was finger licking good, and a great way to bring all the family together.
We ordered a few appetizers to compliment the celebration. The fried calamari was light and crispy. The tiny Italian meatballs were also a hit. You can always count on complimentary warm bread rolls served with oil and balsamic while you wait.
The salad was crispy and fresh served with fries. We ordered extra fries since teenage boys have a love that transcends any portion available.
I brought my son’s birthday cake which was welcomed by the establishment. I appreciated that courtesy.
All in all, the food was amazing, and we will certainly be going back for more. If you want to order for pick up – call in advance so the family chicken special is ready when you get there!!
Keep in mind Maurizio offers a classic breakfast menu that is also worth your consideration.
