Cortnee Vine, fresh from the Matildas’ renowned World Cup stint on Australian terrain, is a key asset to the Sydney FC team aiming for consecutive wins at the Women’s A-League Championship.

The promising new season of the women’s A-League is set to launch this Saturday, hosting matches in Gosford, Sydney, and Perth. A central feature of the inaugural night is the riveting face-off between Sydney FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers, taking place at the iconic Allianz Stadium.

On the Sydney FC roster is the talented midfielder Vine, who distinguished herself as one of the Matildas’ major contributors during their successful advance to the World Cup semi-finals. Sydney teammate Kirsty Fenton sings high praises of Vine’s contribution as a unifying force and a source of ardor on and off the field.

“Post-World Cup, the excitement surrounding women’s football is palpable,” Fenton shared. “This excitement, primarily sparked by Cortnee, generates a magnetism pulling in fans and aspiring female footballers alike. Her proficiency, seasoned experience, and confidant leadership become learning lessons for us, imparting team camaraderie and mutual motivation amongst us.”

The Wanderers’ chances against Sydney improved with the recent contract renewal of goalkeeper Sham Khamis. With an unwavering zeal, the 28-year-old sports veteran aims to integrate her experiences to guide young players. “As a senior squad member, I perceive this as an avenue to divert my experiences towards mentoring the young talents, showing them the prospects that lie ahead for aspiring women footballers here in Australia,” she expressed.
