A massive fire is nearing Lake Tahoe, a renowned gambling destination situated on the border of California and Nevada. California officials have announced that the fire blazing toward Lake Tahoe is the nation’s priority.
By Wednesday, the blistering fire was within 20 miles south of Lake Tahoe, covering a large area with gray ash and dense smoke. Lake Tahoe is situated near the snowcapped Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Authorities issued evacuation orders on Wednesday, but the public officials are overly concerned about the destruction of structures at the lake. According to an article by the Associated Press, dozens of other states are experiencing other fires. The Caldor fire burning toward Lake Tahoe is not the largest, but it is the nation’s priority.
As the blaze continued raging on Wednesday, part of Lake Tahoe has started experiencing the worst air pollution. According to Associated Press, the area is under hazardous air quality. Schools in Reno have been closed, requiring 67, 000 students to stay at home.
The hazardous air has also forced visitors to seek refuge in Lake Tahoe casinos and other indoor sites. At Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Stateline, Nevada, gambling went on without the worries of the blaze.
