Marriott Unveils First Luxury Hotel in Macau amid $2 Billion Transformation of Londoner Resort

Sands China and Marriott International have announced the introduction of the Londoner Grand concept to the London Macau casino resort. This marks the advent of the first Marriott Luxury Collection hotel in Macau. Previously known as Sands Cotai Central, the property has undergone a $2 billion transformation to emerge as the Londoner, a British-inspired reimagining that opened its doors in early 2021. The Londoner Grand will feature 2,405 guestrooms and an impressive array of dining options.

According to a statement, the Londoner Grand will introduce five unique concepts to The Londoner Macao’s already diverse dining portfolio. Hampton Court will offer an international and Chinese buffet, while Chelsea Garden will provide an all-day dining experience with a wide selection of local and regional Chinese cuisines, showcased through show kitchens in a garden-themed setting. The Conservatory will include three distinct areas: a dim sum restaurant and tearoom, a confectionery store, and a British pub bar. Sands China is a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands.

Though the Londoner is relatively new, it has quickly achieved significant acclaim, being featured on the 2023 Condé Nast Traveler Gold List. It stands as the only hotel in Macau to receive the “China Top 10 Hotels” designation from the publication. This is especially notable given that many hotels in Macau boast four- and five-star ratings and cater to a high-end clientele. This rapid rise in prestige suggests that the Londoner is a fitting addition to the Marriott Luxury Collection, a group that comprises just 124 hotels worldwide, including 36 in the Asia-Pacific region and five in China.

The Londoner Grand is being positioned as a marquee addition to the Luxury Collection and could enhance the Londoner’s reputation significantly. Alongside the Parisian Macau and Venetian Macau, the Londoner completes Sands China’s trio of integrated resort cities.

According to the press release, the Londoner Grand is set to become a signature development within Marriott International’s Luxury Group portfolio and a landmark in Macau. It promises to offer an unmatched blend of local authenticity, bespoke programming, and impeccable service, aiming to attract more international visitors to Macau and expand the culinary and experiential options for the local community.

This venture marks the second collaboration between Marriott Luxury Collection and a casino hotel. The Bellagio on the Las Vegas Strip is also part of the Marriott Luxury Collection, managed by MGM Resorts International, with which Marriott maintains an extensive points-sharing agreement. There are currently only 20 North American hotels in the Marriott Luxury Collection, all located in the United States, with eight in the Pacific time zone and one in Hawaii.
