Excalibur Hotel and Casino became the scene of a violent incident Sunday evening, when Adam Carter, 47, attacked another man around 5:30 p.m. The altercation took place on a pedestrian bridge connecting New York-New York Hotel & Casino and the Excalibur Hotel & Casino. According to police, the victim was slashed with a steak knife featuring a six-inch blade after he and his wife ignored Carter’s request for water.

The victim, who remains unidentified but is reportedly over 60 years old, sustained serious injuries, including cuts to his liver and gallbladder. Responding officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) found him lying on the pavement. He was promptly transported to University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and was admitted to the intensive care unit. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Carter was apprehended shortly after the stabbing near a Shake Shack inside the New York-New York casino. The knife used in the attack was later discovered on a nearby street. When questioned by officers, Carter made incoherent statements such as “someone is gonna kill me” and “they’re chasing me.” Reports indicate that he had consumed methamphetamine and alcohol prior to the incident.

Carter has been charged with attempted murder and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bond. Despite being scheduled for court appearances on Tuesday and Thursday, he refused to be transported. Judge Elana Lee Graham has since mandated that Carter must appear in court on Monday “by any means necessary.”

The attack has left a marked impression on tourists. Chad Numrich expressed to local news station KLAS that the incident was “a little bit scary” and “unbelievable,” emphasizing that such violence could happen to anyone. Laura Calk noted, “Honestly it can happen anywhere,” stressing the need to remain vigilant. Becky Flores echoed similar sentiments, advising visitors to be cautious.

Carter has a prior record and was recently on probation for damaging property inside Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. He has been ordered to pay restitution to the hospital.
