A man has died and Alberta’s Serious Crimes Response Team is investigating the case following Tuesday’s confrontation that took place at the Southside Hotel, police say.
Officers have received a call from the hotel, which is located on the 53rd Avenue and Calgary Trail, noting that an individual was destroying vehicles and firing shots from a gun, a news release said.
The man took off but police managed to find him after 10 minutes a couple of blocks away at 54th Avenue and Gateway Boulevard.
After a short foot chase, police cornered the man, and a confrontation ensued, leading the officers to discharge their firearms.
The news release also said that police recovered a firearm at the scene.
