Numerous London citizens pledged their participation on Saturday in ‘Run for Palestine’, a non-profit establishment dedicated to raising funds for Palestine and Palestinian refugee encampments across the Middle East.

Taking place in cities throughout Canada, these fundraising endeavors involve either a brisk 1km walk or a more strenuous 5km run, each striving to collect a sizeable sum for a variety of charitable initiatives.

Nehal AL Tarhuni, an organizer of the event, voiced the group’s pride in supporting a local charity for the first time in this year’s family-focused gathering. “The majority of us hail from London, and nothing gives us more satisfaction than giving back to our community, especially when it pertains to a cause that is greatly in need,” she revealed.

Al Tarhuni disclosed to CTV News that the non-profit has forged a partnership with Islamic Relief Canada with the objective of significantly improving the neonatal unit at the Al-Makassed Hospital located in Jerusalem.

The funds that will be collected are earmarked to not only provide scholarship assistance to the Canadian Palestinian Professional Foundation (CPPF), but also to bolster the London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) neonatal intensive care unit.

Looking forward to their 6th annual event, the organization has set its sights on raising a whopping $30,000. In the previous year, 2022, the organization managed to amass over $166,802. This windfall was utilized to procure critical medical equipment for the maternity department at the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza.

Scheduled to take place in the serene environs of Greenway Park, the event runs from the early hours of 9 a.m. to the late afternoon at 6:30 p.m.
