Eating for Pleasure
by Zeina Khawam
I love food and think about it all the time – anything from salmon, to beans and lentils, all kinds of fruit and vegetables, and even a McDonald’s BigMac once in a while. I also happen to be a registered dietitian (RD). You might think junk food and nutrition don’t go together, but I understand that eating is a pleasure, even if that means indulging on occasion. I therefore demonstrate that leading a healthy lifestyle is not about deprivation or self-guilt, but rather based on making better choices more often. My approach is simple: I teach my clients how to eat for pleasure, allowing them to explore and appreciate foods that also offer the nutrients they need to a live a healthy life. No need to go on a strict diet, eliminate entire food groups, weigh your food, or count calories. Sometimes it’s about changing the way we eat rather than what we eat.
As a member of l’Ordre professionnel des diététistes du Québec and Dietitians of Canada, I make sure every client receives the most up-to-date information tailored to their lifestyle and preferences. I have experience in working with clients from all life stages, ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. I possess an expertise in medical related issues (diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and digestive disorders), as well as in weight management. I currently work in Montreal and the West Island where I consult a clientele that desires to change their lifestyle habits, whether it is to lose weight, improve performance in a sport or simply live healthier. Services range from individual consultations to corporate seminars and even group programs (https://www.facebook.com/events/1668794503406024/).
You see a doctor for medical questions, a dentist for tooth aches, so why not see a nutritionist for nutritional issues?
