Leo Blanchette Mail Processing Plant in Montreal Report over 30 Cases of COVID-19

A Montreal mail processing plant was confirmed to be a site for the COVID-19 outbreak. The Leo Blanchette mail processing plant on McArthur St. in St. Laurent has reported over 30 of their employees test positive for COVID-19 in the past two weeks.

The spokesperson further added that voluntary onsite rapid COVID-19 testing is ongoing for all the 3000 employees and contractors at the plant. Those who will test positive will be required to leave the workplace and self-isolate.

So far, 32 employees have tested positive and none of them has died. The Canadian Union of Posta Workers is closely monitoring the COVID-19 cases at Leo Blanchette Mail Processing Centre in Montreal.

Jan Simpson, the national union president said that the health and safety of members is their priority. They are thus requested for rapid testing to begin in the facility on Tuesday morning.

“Canada Post must take every precaution to ensure the health and safety of workers. Poster workers have been on the front lines of this pandemic for over a year, helping people stay home and stay safe, and they must be included in the second phase of the vaccine rollout.”
