In a September foreclosure sale, the Las Vegas home where legendary comedian Jerry Lewis resided for over three decades went for roughly $2 million. Bursting with character and history, the 7,230 square-foot residence, located at 1701 Waldman Ave and furnished with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, served as the long-time abode of both Lewis and his wife, SanDee “Sam” Lewis.
The couple enjoyed the comforts of their home until Jerry Lewis sparked his last laughter in 2017, succumbing to cardiac disease at the age of 91. With an illustrious life journey woven with entertaining chapters, Lewis, christened Joseph Levitch at birth in Newark, enhanced the film and comedy industry with his versatile performances since 1946.
In collaboration with singer Dean Martin, Lewis delighted audiences as half of the celebrated comedy duo, Martin and Lewis. On parting ways with Martin in 1956, Lewis left his distinctive comedic imprint in films like The Nutty Professor and The Bell Boy. Furthermore, his hosting skills during the annual Labor Day telethons of the Muscular Dystrophy Association from 1966-2009, added another feather to his cap.
Established in 1964 amid Vegas’ historic Scotch 80s neighborhood, their noteworthy abode witnesses a history that dates back to the city’s first mayor, Peter Buol. Boasting important original features like a French-imported crystal chandelier in the entryway, a petrified wood fireplace, and a classic wooden bar/lounge from the 1960s, the house embraced an air of nostalgia touched by modern updates.
Upon Lewis’s demise, the property passed through various hands. Initially sold by his widow for $1.2 million to local real-estate investor Jane Popple, it was sold again in 2021 for $1.4 million to Blooming Desert LLC, managed by real-estate agents Ido Gavish and Todd Butwinick.
The eventful saga of Lewis’ house took a dramatic turn in 2022, due to the inability of Blooming Desert to keep up with the mortgage payments. This led to the foreclosure sale filing in September with Clark County, leading to the current transaction where Nevada Trust Deed Services sold the residence to private lending company, Brumbles Capital.
It’s predicted that more renovations are in line for Lewis’ former home before restaging it on the market for an asking price of $2.5 million. Yet, as the property transcends into its new phase, it will forever be etched in the memories of many as the home of their beloved comedian, Jerry Lewis, where laughter once reveled in every corner.
