Latin Grammy Awards Return to Miami for 25th Anniversary: Édgar Barrera Leads Nominations

The 2024 Latin Grammy Awards are upon us, returning to Miami in grand style. This year marks a milestone celebration of the award show’s 25th anniversary, coinciding with a time when Latin music genres are enjoying unprecedented global popularity.

Leading the nominations for the second consecutive year is the lauded producer and songwriter Édgar Barrera. Known for his collaborations with major stars like Madonna, Karol G, Peso Pluma, Shakira, and Grupo Frontera, Barrera is up for an impressive nine awards this year. Last year, he was nominated 13 times and took home three awards. For 2024, Barrera’s talents have earned him nominations for Producer of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year. Additionally, he boasts two nominations in the Best Regional Mexican Song category and three in the Song of the Year category for his work on Shakira and Grupo Frontera’s “Entre Paréntesis,” Karol G’s “Mi Ex Tenía Razón,” and Maluma and Carin León’s “Según Quién.”

Close behind Barrera with eight nominations each are reggaetón powerhouses Karol G and Bad Bunny. Colombian songwriter Keityn follows with six nods, showcasing the depth of talent in this year’s nominations.

The event, set to begin at 8 p.m. Eastern, will take place at the Kaseya Center in Miami. The roster of performers promises an electrifying evening, featuring live performances by Barrera himself, alongside Residente, Myke Towers, DJ Khaled, Jon Bon Jovi, Joe Jonas, Anitta, Becky G, Eladio Carrión, Grupo Frontera, Kali Uchis, Pitbull, Luis Fonsi, Juan Luis Guerra, and Carín León, among others. Carlos Vives, the 2024 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, will also grace the stage. Past recipients of this prestigious honor include Juanes, Laura Pausini, Marco Antonio Solís, and Rubén Blades.

This year introduces two new award categories: Best Latin Electronic Music Performance within the new electronic music field, and Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album, reflecting the evolving and diverse landscape of Latin music.

The three-hour broadcast of the 25th annual Latin Grammy Awards will be aired live on Univision, UniMás, Galavisión, and ViX, ensuring fans everywhere can join in the celebration of Latin music’s brightest stars.
