The Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation (LGHF) has received a $75,000 donation from Aurora Cannabis Inc., which operates Aurora Vie, a Health Canada licensed medical cannabis production facility located in Pointe-Claire, Québec. This generous donation will be used to improve patient care at the Lakeshore General Hospital, which benefits everyone in the community. The donation is Aurora’s first major charitable donation in the West Island.
“We are delighted that Aurora has chosen our Foundation to be the first recipient of its community giving program in the West Island,” said Heather Holmes, Managing Director of the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation. “After establishing their new facility in Pointe-Claire last spring, Aurora began reaching out to the leaders of our local community and emphasizing their commitment to Montréal and the West Island. Aurora’s donation will go a long way in helping us achieve our 2018 financial goals. We look forward to continuing our relationship with this active member of our community.”
“Working with groups involved in community health and wellness is an important part of our corporate responsibility,” said Cam Battley, Aurora’s Chief Corporate Officer, who was born and raised in Montréal. “As a leading producer of medical cannabis, we believe in supporting the communities in which we operate. Funds raised by the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation provide vital support and advance patient care at the hospital. We are delighted to contribute to their efforts.”
Over the years and thanks to generous donors, the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation has acquired state-of-the-art medical equipment, financed major renovations to hospital structures and invested in specialized programs and training for professional staff. All this translates directly into better care for the West Island community. Aurora’s generous contribution will help finance more beds specifically adapted for geriatric care, in order to meet the increasingly complex healthcare need of ageing West Islanders.
“We all know someone who has spent time at the Lakeshore General Hospital, and this hospital is a cornerstone of the West Island community,” said Andrea Paine, National Director of Government Relations for Aurora Cannabis. “We are happy to support this West Island health care institution with more high-tech beds and improvements to their geriatric wing, which, once realized, will have a direct impact on the quality of patient care for our community. As a company committed to ensuring that our own patients receive the best care possible, Aurora felt that the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation’s goals aligned with our corporate responsibilities; which we take very seriously. We are honoured to do our share for a healthier West Island.”
