Kirkland offers citizens the Voilà digital portal, DDO gets a Facebook page
West Island cities vary in their philosophy towards social media. While Pierrefonds and Pointe Claire as an example, stream their public meetings live each month, Beaconsfield, Dorval, and Baie D’Urfé do not. All West Island cities except Beaconsfield have joined the Facebook movement by creating a Facebook page.
Dollard des Ormeaux recently announced their Facebook page and are looking for “likes”. A contest is on until noon on July 3, where residents have the chance to win an iPad by filling out a form that is front and center on the Dollard Des Ormeaux Facebook page.
Kirkland has taken a virtual leap and is offering the Voilà App to all its residents. More than 150 cities in Quebec have joined this trend boasting more 10,000 users. The app provides a unified platform for municipalities to build a smart community. While most cities offer the Code Red service for emergencies, the system is designed to leave a voice message and will call back every fifteen minutes if the user does not pick up. Only those citizens registered will be contacted. Code red is not generally used for issues outside of emergencies and water supply problems due to a water main rupture.
Voilà! is a personalized, mobile and web-based citizen’s account, which facilitates communication between citizens and the city to become a truly smart city. The platform is developed in partnership with the City of L’Ancienne-Lorette to centralize all municipal services into a personalized Citizenship file. According to their website, every city can enter the era of municipal intelligence thanks to Voilà
The app allows residents a user-friendly sign-up experience that facilitates the work of leisure service employees by reporting a problem directly to the municipality and offering a real-time follow-up. Permits, surveys, personalized information related to a citizen’s property, news, garbage pick up, tax statements, online registration and leisure cards are just a few of the perks.
Voilà offers municipal website creation and master content management. Cote Saint Luc, Hampstead, Kirkland, Granby and Lachute are just a few of the participating cities.
