In a recent turn of events, a Kingston resident finds himself in the thick of legal woes as he faces a plethora of charges. The Ontario Provincial Police arrested the man after a highway cop on Highway 401 spotted him driving at a velocity exceeding 2.5 times the permissible speed limit.

The incident took place on a Sunday morning, just east of Napanee, near Switzerville Road. The officer was stationed in the median, on the lookout for drivers brazenly flouting speed limits. It was approximately 7:13 a.m. when the offending motorist was seen hurtling towards the officer’s position at a speed recorded at 252 km/h. It should be noted that the designated speed limit for this stretch of highway stands at a moderate 100 km/h.

Assistance was sought from the bustling traffic on Highway 401, which helped bring the speeding car to a halt around County Road 6- situated around 15 km to the east of Switzerville Road. The respondent, a Kingston native aged 40 years, now faces charges of stunt driving, negligence on the road, and a charge for having cannabis within easy reach while driving. It was revealed that a minor quantity of the substance was discovered stashed away within the vehicle’s centre console.

An appointed date will witness the accused stand trial at the Provincial Offences Court located in Greater Napanee. The provincial police have also temporarily suspended his driving licence for 30 days and have impounded his vehicle for a fortnight. The story serves as a stark reminder that careless decisions made on the road can lead to serious repercussions.

As this story unfolds, the man awaits his fate to be decided by the court. In the meantime, the Ontario Provincial Police continue to encourage drivers to adhere to prescribed speed limits and refrain from reckless behavior on the road.
