Over two decades ago, actress Kate Hudson famously channeled the world of music’s most fervent admirer, Penny Lane, in the iconic film “Almost Famous”. A must-watch for passionate audiophiles, the role for Hudson was more than just an acting job; it seamlessly fused with her own enduring and heartfelt love for music.

“Life without music is unthinkable,” Hudson shared during a candid conversation from Los Angeles. “Remember those moments of solitude, when you’d sit in your room, play an album, and simply dream? That’s the transforming power of music. It can unalterably change the course of your life.”

On the 17th of May, an exciting opportunity lies in wait for the celebrated actress. Encapsulating her lifelong affair with music, Hudson will debut her first album, aptly titled “Glorious”. An adventurous compilation, the record has been penned with her closest counterparts, including Linda Perry, Johan Carlsson, and her fiance, Danny Fujikawa. It is a grand tapestry, woven with threads of folk, rock, synth, soulful ballads and powerful pop numbers.

“My influences are ever-changing. I was certainly not keen on being restricted to one genre,” Hudson revealed.

Songwriting has been an integral part of Hudson’s life since her teens. However, the paradoxical slowdown brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic prompted introspection and existential inquiries, eventually leading to a fervent desire to create a professional album. “I began to reflect on what the ensuing years of my life would look like in terms of my artistic endeavors. A recurring thought was the deep regret I’d feel if I didn’t create an album,” Hudson admitted.

Drawing inspiration from her life, she created 26 songs, with a dozen making it to the final cut. The tracklist explores profoundly personal themes, such as the trials and triumphs of motherhood (as seen in “Live Forever”) and the painful but inevitable process of healing after a relationship ends (“Never Made a Moment”).

The titular track “Glorious” is the album’s defining piece. “It’s about a life lavished with love. Even in the face of struggles, life remains glorious,” Hudson said.

Through her debut record, Hudson’s primary objective is to uplift listeners in the unique ways they connect with her music. “If there’s even a single person who listens to the album, closes their eyes and experiences a shift from within, then my mission has been accomplished,” Hudson asserts.

She hopes her music inspires listeners to crank up the volume, feel the wind in their hair, and seize the moment with unabashed joy. “If a guitar solo can ignite a fiery burst of euphoria within a listener, that’s success to me. In essence, it’s that simple,” Hudson concluded with a radiant smile.
