A Florida judge has officially declared Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner divorced and single, finalizing a confidential agreement between the two parties.
On Friday, the Miami-Dade County judge approved the agreement, one year after the 35-year-old Jonas Brothers singer initiated divorce proceedings against the 28-year-old actress, known for her roles in “Game of Thrones” and “X-Men.” The couple had been married for five years.
The split concluded in a relatively swift and quiet manner, putting an end to what briefly seemed destined to be a contentious and prolonged custody battle. The filed documents noted that mediated negotiations led to a comprehensive agreement addressing the division of assets, spousal support, and the custody arrangement for their two daughters, 4-year-old Willa and 2-year-old Delphine.
Judge Gina Beovides affirmed that the marriage was “irretrievably broken” and validated the couple’s agreement, particularly their parenting plan, as being in the best interest of the family.
A representative for Turner declined to comment, and a request for comment from Jonas’ representative went unanswered.
The couple’s relationship began through Instagram messages, and they started dating in 2016. Their marriage took place in a secretive ceremony at a Las Vegas wedding chapel in May 2019 following the Billboard Music Awards, with country duo Dan + Shay performing at the event.
Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023, seeking joint custody and citing a pre-nuptial agreement in his filing. The day after filing for divorce, both Jonas and Turner shared an identical, amicable statement on their respective Instagram accounts.
However, the separation soon escalated into a serious dispute when Turner filed a lawsuit demanding Jonas turn over the girls’ passports, enabling them to join her in her native England. According to court documents, the daughters, born in the U.S. and holding dual citizenship, were with Jonas in New York, where he was on tour. Turner claimed they had planned to raise the girls together in England before their marriage dissolved and said she learned of the divorce filing through the media. Jonas contended that the two had multiple discussions about the divorce.
The custody battle was dropped in January, indicating that the couple was moving towards a resolution.
Turner hails from Northampton, England, and garnered fame as Sansa Stark over eight seasons of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” She also portrayed Jean Grey in “X-Men: Apocalypse” (2016) and “Dark Phoenix” (2019).
Jonas, originally from Arizona, rose to fame with his brothers Nick and Kevin as part of the Jonas Brothers band, which started in 2005 and led to a Disney Channel series. Last year, the Jonas Brothers released their sixth studio album and embarked on a tour across U.S. stadiums.
