Injury Comeback Shock: Could Jhye Richardson Secretly Be Australia’s Ace in Sydney Showdown?

22

Jhye Richardson is being considered for a spot in Australia’s squad for the fifth Test against India in Sydney, despite still recovering from injuries. The fast bowler could replace Mitchell Starc, who is struggling with a back issue sustained during the Melbourne Test. Although Richardson was recently brought back into Australia’s Test squad, he didn’t expect to be called up, given his limited play over the past year due to shoulder and hamstring injuries.

Richardson has remained circumspect about his potential inclusion, stating he will be prepared to seize the opportunity if it arises. Since his return, Richardson has shown glimpses of form by taking 6-81 in three Big Bash League matches, including a decisive 3-29 performance in his last outing. National coach Andrew McDonald revealed that Richardson, who has been heavily involved in training sessions with the Australian squad, is capable of bowling 40-plus overs if needed.

As Australia gears up for the crucial fifth Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the decision on Richardson’s inclusion will depend on Starc’s recovery. The match starts on Friday.
