Berchicci is one of the best finds for anyone who enjoys cooking with imported Italian products. The speciality items that we find in local speciality stores like Cavallaro, are found at a fraction of the price.
I enjoy a specific italian gluten free corn pasta that I have seen as high as $8.99 for at Health Tree in DDO only to find it at Berchicci at $2.99. Keep in mind that imported italian gluten free pasta has for a long time been the only way to eat pasta without gluten. Now Barilla has a great selection and I opt for that.
I digress…
For West Islanders it is a bit of a hike and the hours are strange but it is worth the effort. The prices are simply C-R-A-Z-Y. See above slide show to know what I mean.
When you walk in your taste buds are assaulted by the selection of cheeses and cured meats. Fresh baked breads and pizzas are on racks. You can take a leisurely walk through the imported olive oil section and taste test the whole way through. It is really hard to choose, because not only are the prices great but the selection is huge.
There is frozen pizza doe, pastas priced at less than a $1, canned and crushed imported tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes and sauces. Spices, pestos, pastas, pizza toppings, imported water, spreads and spices line the huge warehouse space.
As you make your way through the Costco like space you will naturally wind up in the dessert section where they keep the imported Nutella, cakes, cookies and candies. Jams start at $4.95.
For a foodie this place is heaven.
