Hollywood’s Most Turbulent Love Story: The Secret Settlement That Changed Everything

10

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finally reached a settlement in their lengthy divorce battle, concluding one of Hollywood’s most protracted and high-profile separations. The settlement, finalized via a default declaration in Los Angeles Superior Court, includes agreements on marital and property rights. However, details of spousal support have not been disclosed, and a judge’s approval remains pending.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016 following allegations of physical abuse during a private flight. Subsequent investigations by the FBI and child services resulted in no charges against Pitt. Despite being legally considered single since 2019, Jolie and Pitt continued to negotiate asset division and child custody agreements. Over the past eight years, four of their children have reached adulthood, narrowing custody discussions to twin minors Knox and Vivienne. Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, another of their children, has removed Pitt’s surname from hers.

The couple’s use of a private judge has kept many details private. However, some issues have emerged in a separate lawsuit: Pitt disputes Jolie’s sale of her share in their jointly-owned French winery, Chateau Miraval, alleging it was done maliciously and without his consent. He claims Jolie demanded a non-disclosure agreement during sale negotiations, related to alleged abuse claims.

Throughout their divorce, both have generally stayed silent in the public eye, despite their professional endeavors. Jolie has continued acting and directing, earning recognition for her role as Maria Callas. Pitt, meanwhile, addressed a past drinking problem tied to their split and has maintained his position as a Hollywood luminary, even winning an Oscar for his role in “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.”

The resolution of their divorce marks an end to one part of their prolonged issues, yet it leaves ongoing legal matters unresolved.
