A high-risk offender, who had notably been the focal point of an uncommon community safety advisory, has been apprehended by provincial law enforcement in northern Ontario, Barrie police confirm.
The advisory had been circulated the previous month by Barrie police to alert residents about Tony Gordon, a 30-year-old man recently relocated to the city following his release from custody in the Hamilton vicinity.
Peter Leon, the Corporate Communications Coordinator for Barrie Police Services, had earlier warned that Gordon constituted a “significant threat to the safety of our community.”
While particulars surrounding the arrest of Gordon have not yet been disclosed, Leon assured that his current custody should bring a sense of relief to residents, stating, “We were deeply concerned for everyone’s safety and took the appropriate measures to keep our citizens safe.”
In its previous communiqué, the Barrie Police Service had shared an image of Tony Gordon, labeling him as a ‘high-risk offender’ who presented a “significant threat” to local community safety.
Reportedly, Gordon has a criminal history involving various offenses. This includes, but is not limited to, breaking and entering, nocturnal trespassing and prowling, sexual assault, as well as assault through choking, suffocation, and strangulation.
Upon his release, specific restrictions had been imposed on Gordon. He was strictly prohibited from visiting any park, public pool, daycare center, school premises, playground, or community center where children under the age of 16 might be expected to be present.
Moreover, he was ordered by the court to abstain from any contact with individuals below the age of 16, unless under the supervision of an individual approved by the court.
