We’re all the same. Snacks are irresistible, unavoidable and in one word they are everywhere. Wherever you go there is a high chance that you will run into at least one type of your favourite snacks – on the way to work, in the cinema and even in stores close to the gym. And sure, you have seen some of the healthy options as well but why on earth would you eating something like healthy fitness snacks when chips taste so much better.

But the thing is all these snacks are super harmful not just in terms of weight gain. They are full of salts and trans fat and there are bad additives that nibbling on them daily certainly takes a toll on our health.

Healthy SnacksThere are a lot of healthy snacks out there that can be equally delicious.

Nevertheless, before we go on we would like to list some of the reasons why we are so addicted to snacks.

Why are we addicted to junk food and snacks?

Why are we so crazy about snacks even if we know that it’s super unhealthy? According to cardiologist Dr. Rita Redberg, the reasons for this are very simple.  As she explains the same as the car our body needs the fuel, meaning the energy to keep going. One main source of energy is sugar and snacks and snacks are full of it.  Good sugar is found in fruit and vegetable and sugar that is found in snacks and junk food is artificial and super harmful. However, this sugar is highly addictive. Believe it or not, a lot of experts compare it to tobacco or even drugs when they explain how addictive it is. Another reason why we get so easily hooked lies in sodium, trans fats and artificial additives that enhance the taste of this food.

Healthy Snacks

We have to admit that we also believed that healthy food means tasteless food. This is common prejudice about healthy snacks, that they are something gross or at least with a neutral taste. Truth to be told when you start to replace junk food with healthy snacks it will take some time to regain the taste. Nutritionists give us a logical explanation for this. The artificial additives are altering taste. That’s why potato chips and real potatoes taste so differently. It’s not true that healthy snacks don’t taste good, it’s just that you are so used to artificial additives and you can’t distinguish the tastes well anymore. Let’s say you are eating almonds but with tons of added salt. You won’t know what is the taste of almond and what salt. But don’t worry you can regain taste quickly once you decide to quit with snacks. Lets’ take a look at some healthy options that will certainly make our taste buds happy.

Healthy Protein Snacks

Unlike sugars that run through our bloodstream quickly so we get super hungry again shortly after consuming them, protein stays long.  Protein can stabilize blood sugar levels and slow down digestion. There are a lot of healthy protein snacks that you can eat without worrying about the effects on your health. Some of them are hummus, Greek yogurt, roasted chickpeas, almonds, avocado, hard-boiled eggs, jerky and so on. Snacks for workout

We all know pretty well that feeling when we could eat a horse after good training, don’t we? The first thing you want to do is to go and grab a burger or something. But, you should know this would be disastrous for your health plus work out wouldn’t have full effects. What you can do instead is check out and replace it with some healthy snacks bodybuilding variations.  Some of them can be a handful of unsalted nuts, greek yogurt parfait, oatmeal, dry fruit, smoothies and so on. Interestingly these can also be healthy pre-workout snacks.

As you can see there isn’t anything tasteless about healthy snacks, is there? This is the food that we eat anyways we just don’t think so much about it. The only important thing is to know that it is way better to leave out all of the hyper salted and sweetened food and focus on food that is beneficial for us.
