Back to school means back to the battle against head lice. Fortunately, there is a new way to dispel the little buggers. Newly opened, Itchy Bitsi in Vaudreuil-Dorion has a goal of removing lice in a fast and efficient manner.
“My family owns this franchise in Mexico and my husband and I decided to open one here to help families get rid lice,” owner Mayela Garza said in an interview. “Clothing is the main means of propagation so in Quebec, summer months are slower for us but back to school is a busy time.”
An appointment can take up to two hours to remove the nits from a head of hair.
According to Garza, contrary to popular myth, lice find feeding on a cleaner head easier than a dirty one. She pointed out that taking selfies and sharing clothes is a perfect way for lice to jump from one head to another.
“If you have high PH they don’t like it,” Garza explained, “which is why some children in a household can have while the others not.”
The store front location at 142 St. Charles Ave. has several colorful stations where children and adults can feel comfortable on their journey through the agonizing world of dispelling lice. Children will find themselves in a friendly environment where ipads, movies, games, children’s literature and other games will be at their disposition to make their hair treatment more pleasant.
