The exuberant mood was palpable on Tuesday night in Los Angeles as Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day embodied their recent “Saturday Night Live” incarnations of Beavis and Butt-Head at the premiere of Gosling’s new blockbuster, “The Fall Guy.”
Gosling, who shares the silver screen with Emily Blunt in “The Fall Guy,” made two significant appearances at the red-carpet event. The first saw the dashing actor impeccably dressed in a fresh mint-green suit and matching shirt, exuding his trademark charm. Nevertheless, the night took an unexpected twist when the gentlemanly Gosling returned to the spotlight dressed as the unruly character, Beavis. Donning a blonde pompadour wig and a rebellious “Death Rock” T-shirt, he exhibited an entirely different persona from his initial suave appearance.
The imitable Mikey Day, on the other hand, effortlessly slipped into the persona of the buck-toothed Butt-Head as Gosling’s hilarious cohort. This vibrant duo, known for their animated characters’ dim-witted antics and unrefined humor, offered a delightful sense of nostalgia for the riotous 90s show “Beavis and Butt-Head,” once a fixture on MTV.
The pair first adopted these live-action versions of the iconic cartoon characters in a SNL sketch last month, eliciting belly laughs from cast member Heidi Gardner, among others. The rib-tickler of a skit, featuring Beavis and Butt-Head disrupting a solemn panel discussion on artificial intelligence with their crude jabs, has since accumulated over 13 million views on YouTube.
Although Gosling and Day gleefully posed for photographers in character, along with Dominic Lewis, the composer for “The Fall Guy,” they chose not to give interviews while in character, much to the playful disappointment of attendees.
In “The Fall Guy,” Gosling plays a daring stuntman, a role that will bravely usher in the summer movie season when it hits theaters this Friday.
