This weekend, three golf courses have been opened for business on P.E.I. Andersons Creek, Avondale and Belfast are the three golf courses opened during the weekend. Despite chillier temperatures, the courses have seen a fair share of visitors eager to play golf. Several other courses are about to be opened in the next few weeks.
Ben King, director of golf at Andersons Creek in Stanley Bridge, is pleased that he could open the golf course for the public.
“Lot of smiling faces, that’s for sure. I think I a lot of people were excited to get out and get back in the golf groove.”
In 2020, Andersons Creek didn’t open until May 14 because of COVID-19 restrictions. Usually, this golf course opens in April. King said that the golf course is in great shape.
“I know for a lot of us the off-season can drag on little bit so it’s nice to get back in the swing of things and talking to people and just enjoying life again.”
Representatives for Avondale and Belfast are also pleased with the state of their golf courses. Frank Zhou of Stratford regularly visits Avondale to play golf when the season is open. He is happy with Avondale being opened now:
“We had a lot of fun on the course. Because of the pandemic, we tried to get on the course ASAP. We can’t wait for more courses to open so we can play all of them.”
He also commented on the state of the course:
“It was much drier than we expected and the greens rolled much better than we expected for this time of year.”
The courses are operating under the same COVID-19 guidelines as in 2020 and the visitors are obliged to wear masks and take all other necessary precautions.
