Gatineau Police Urge Public Sensitivity Following Grisly Teenage Car Crash

In the wake of a gruesome fatality in the Buckingham district, authorities from the Gatineau police department are compelled to plead for peace and kindness amongst the public. The incident, which transpired at approximately 3 a.m. on a recent Sunday, saw a devastating collision at the crossroads of Buckingham Avenue and Maclaren Street.

In the series of events surrounding the unfortunate accident, it was observed that the driver collided into a power pole, setting the vehicle ablaze. This led to an untimely demise of two teenage passengers whose anonymity is being preserved as per publication ban protocols.


The driver, 18-year-old Jason Chénier-Beaulne, was fortunate to survive the inferno and consequently was apprehended soon after. With charges including reckless driving resulting in death, DUI manslaughter and failure to remain at the scene of a fatal accident, he now faces grave legal consequences.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the police empathized with the community, acknowledging the deep distress and emotional turbulence triggered by the incident. However, they also spotlighted the necessity of sensibility and thoughtfulness in public discussions, particularly on social platforms.

The appeal advocated for understanding, urging the populace to abstain from sharing disturbing messages or content in respect of those affected and their families. It further extended to parents, advising that they monitor and control their children’s usage of social media during these challenging times.

In response to the tragedy, Gatineau police crisis units have joined hands with local schools, offering much-needed emotional support to youngsters likely to be impacted by the mishap. It was emphasized, however, that any form of threats, online or otherwise, could culminate in criminal charges.

In the words of Gatineau police spokesperson Patrick Kenney, “This fatal accident is heartrending. Two young lives have been tragically cut short, while their friend – the driver, now faces a lifetime of remorse for his actions. Not just the families of the victims and the accused, but their friends too are grappling with unimaginable pain.”

He appealed to the public to exercise caution while expressing sentiments on social media, underscoring the need for a considerate and judicious approach. He encouraged open conversations within families about the devastating effects of speeding and impaired driving, as well as responsible conduct on digital platforms.

He concluded his address by reminding the public, “Tragedies like this one are a cruel reminder that they don’t just happen to someone else. We must remember, no one is invincible.”
