Gabriela Dabrowski, a former U.S. Open women’s doubles champion, revealed she played through 2024 despite a breast cancer diagnosis. Dabrowski shared that she postponed part of her treatment to participate in Wimbledon, where she reached the doubles final. The 32-year-old Canadian emphasized the importance of early detection in saving lives.

Ranked third in women’s doubles, Dabrowski announced on Instagram that she was diagnosed in April and underwent surgery, causing her to miss competitions in April and May. She resumed playing in June, with a slight delay in further treatment for participation in Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics. At Wimbledon, she paired with New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe, finishing as runners-up, and later secured a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the Olympics alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Initially, Dabrowski discovered a lump in late 2023 but was advised not to worry. Reflecting on her journey, Dabrowski expressed gratitude for her experiences, noting a shift in her mindset from obligation to appreciation for her tennis career. She recently clinched victory at the WTA Finals with Routliffe and previously won the U.S. Open doubles title in 2023. Dabrowski concluded her message with a defiant acknowledgment of her battle with cancer.
